How to Create a Listing

How to create a listing for this site.

This is a WordPress Blog which is really just a type of software that I am turning into a content management system.

You can also create a new post – click on posts and then add new and a blank form will come up for you to write your new class listing or write an article supporting your classes.

If you are logging in to update a class listing, You will have to login to the main dashboard and  then go to the left column and click on posts and find yours in the listings and make the corrections or edits and click on update on the right hand side.

For New listings: Start by creating your profile in the users section by clicking the link on the left for users.  Don’t worry about the extraneous contact methods listed like the different instant messaging systems.  Your profile will be posted at the bottom of each of your entries so keep it general with a link to your website and contact information.  (To create a link select the text that you want in a link and click on the little link button on the top of this area and insert your link by just copying it from the top of your website page where you want people to go to. )Please also put what city your are in.  There are many people finding this site from all around the US.

On the top left hand side of the page is a section called “Posts”.  Click on this and click on add new (or edit should show up on your old posts.)

The box will open up that says “Add New Post”.

The first box is for the title of your class.  It will show up in the listings as the first sentence of your listing.  Use clear terms.  Think about what people would want to know to make them click on it.   Use specific keywords related to massage to as  the title will create the file name of the page which is what search engines like.  Shorter titles are better but use your discretion.

In the box under the title you can see the various tools for creating your page.  You can add Bold to your text with the big B, Italics with the I and bullet lists or numbered lists.   At the end of the first line of tools is a box with small little boxes in it that opens up more tools for formatting and pasting from a word document.  Word does not copy correctly into the text box as it usually adds extraneous text and symbols.   Use the little clipboard with a W in it to copy from Word.

Adding pictures is done by clicking on the little symbol for picture (square in a square) in the upload/insert section between your title and text box.

You can imbed a Youtube video by clicking on the HTML tab on the top right of this box and add your code where you want.  Adding videos is what will help students get a better picture of you and what you will be teaching and how it can help their practice.

Be sure to add all the essential class info:  Date, Time, Location, Teacher, Class details.   What will make this directory different from all the rest is you learning to write more from the potential students view.  What they want to know is how will it help them get more clients which is really the basic concern of every massage therapist.   How will this new technique or specific information enhance their massage practice?

When you are finished with your listing you can click on publish or you can save it as a draft so you can continue working on it later.    You can select a category on the right.  Select one for the month and then one or two for they type of class it is.  You can select as many as you want.

If you would like to have more categories added, just contact me.

Class listing Guidelines:
Enter the name of your class in the Title section.
Enter your class details – time of day, location, contact information and cost.
Enter details about Teacher and their credentials.

You can add pictures or imbed a Youtube video(or other online video) into the post to further enhance your listing.  You can give people a little bit of an idea of what your work is about.

To add a Youtube video (or other video) get the code from Youtube by viewing your video and clicking on the box that says “Embed” and select your code.  Then come back to this box and click on the “HTML” next to the “Visual” and find where you want your code to go in your post and paste it there. Click back on “Visual” to make sure you have it where you want it.

For pictures: click on the symbol for pictures at the top of the post box.  It will take you to a place where you can upload the picture from your computer.

Click on the categories on the right that will apply to your class.  You can choose as many as you want.

Be sure to click on publish on the top right hand side when you are ready for it to go live or save as a draft if you want to work on your listing more.  It will be saved so you can work on it later.  It won’t appear on the website until you click publish.

You can also write articles to promote your classes which I highly recommend that you do!

  • Write as much information as you can about what people will learn, why they should take your classes, your training and background, what they can expect, your contact information and as much information as you can.
  • Write about the technique and case studies or write about how this class can help people increase their business or get better results.
  • What is it that makes your class different than all of the other classes?
  • How will it help people increase their business or improve their skills?
  • The one thing that most massage therapists want no matter what the class is something that will get them more clients. The more articles you write the more it increases interest in your work and will help fill your classes.  Providing information will create trust with potential students and create credibility for you and your classes.

To write an article it is best to use the word massage or bodywork in the title if possible.  Use the same words as closely as you can in the first sentence of your article.  Use the same words throughout your post a few times if you can.  This will help the search engines find your pages.
